It’s suddenly, surprisingly that time of year again…and we’re here to celebrate the end of the old and the start of the new. We’ve been busy across North America in 2024 and have expanded our team to better serve our customers and break new ground. (Definitely connect with Larry if you haven’t met him yet!) We’ve upped the ante with our case studies this year and covered great projects from coast to coast and in Canada.
You may have also seen some new marketing initiatives at our job sites in the Pacific Northwest, thanks to a certain Mr. Fletcher (hint: look out for EPRO QR code stickers), and mark your calendars because the EPRO Cup is set to return in 2025…
So, without further exposition, here is our highlight reel from 2024, in no particular order – and we are looking forward to new projects, new connections, continued collaboration and some great work in 2025!
Projects
Echelon Studios – This project was so huge, we wrapped it up into a press release. Another star for us, Echelon Studios will span five acres with four 19,000 square-foot soundstages and a 90,000 square foot “creative village” of office space. PreTak was the system of choice here with 36,000 square feet at the walls, and a further 216,000 of product to be installed under slab. Follow us for photo and project updates as work progresses.
Harrington Heights – Still out in California, we turn our attention to San Diego and a new affordable housing complex in the East Village neighborhood. This project was notable for two significant reasons: First, Warhorse Consulting’s founder and CEO, Jonas Denny, specified PreTak through a notable architect, Joseph Wong & Associates. Second, approximately 9,000 square feet of product was installed mostly 1 story below grade, and Tony Leora, Operations Manager, with Apex Pacific, had the opportunity to install it for the first time – always a great milestone.
And the verdict?
“Installation went great,” Leora says. “This was my first experience using the product and it was easy to install – very user-friendly.”
The Mark, Knoxville – Located near the University of Tennessee, The Mark will be a new student housing complex. With studios to five-bedroom options, 834 beds will be available to students, and the project is aiming for completion in August 2025 – right in time for the new semester to start. EPRO worked with Elite Radon Team to install a massive 200,000 square feet of Geo-Seal 100 across the site and at the elevator pits. We’ll be telling this story in a case study in the new year, so watch our LinkedIn page to see it go live.
Events
EPRO Cup – 2024 saw our Seattle Northwest representative, Mike Fletcher, organize and present the inaugural EPRO Cup for Mary’s Place. We raised $6,500 for this charity that helps provides shelter, meals, resources, and housing support for women and families experiencing homelessness – and our efforts were matched dollar for dollar during their spring campaign. We also learned that our industry boasts more than a few hockey aficionados who we hope will return for another battle on the ice in 2025! Stay tuned for news of this year’s ice-capades…
AVIP - Now in its third year, the Association of Vapor Intrusion Professionals hosted their annual Vapor Intrusion conference in Anaheim, CA. EPRO were, of course, among the attendees, and we spent a productive three days networking, meeting, and discussing all things vapor intrusion with our peers. The JW Marriott provided a stellar backdrop to this well-attended and informative event, and our COO, Peter Grant, presented to a packed room on the topic of methane and mitigation. We’ll definitely be heading to Austin for this event next year and we hope to see you there!
Our Team
In 2024, we were proud to expand our team – and thereby our offerings to our customers and partners – by bringing Larry Liu on board as our new Technical Specialist. Larry came to EPRO from the Stantec Seattle office, previously Morrison Hershfield, where he served as a building science consultant. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo in Honors Environmental Engineering with a strong building science background, and he has already been making waves on job sites on the West Coast. Welcome, Larry!
Marketing and PR
Co-branded case studies - We presented more case studies than ever before in 2024 (a feat so exciting we made it rhyme) and were proud to showcase the diversity of our work across the length and breadth of North America. These case studies were also expanded to showcase the work of our partners, and we chose to recognize this by adding their logo or other identifying information to co-brand each document, enabling both teams to use them for further marketing. We’re excited to present many new projects in 2025, and if you’re interested in working with us on a case study, please drop us a line here!
Published Articles – Thanks to our rockstar Director of Product Development, Scott Schendel, we published two articles this year in key industry publications. Our piece in Applicator Magazine focused on restoration waterproofing projects at the at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport's curb frontage and EPRO’s collaboration with RAM Construction Services, Inc. Scott then had the opportunity to speak with Waterproof! Magazine on blindside waterproofing, its challenges and how the technique has advanced to stay on par with modern construction methods.
